Star Interview - Andy Raleigh
Back To Home Page
This week I am delighted to be interviewing former Rovers favourite, from the not-so-distant past, Andy Raleigh.
Thanks for agreeing to do this interview Andy, we obviously know where you are, how are things going at Huddersfield?
I’m really enjoying myself.   It’s hard work, but I feel like I have fitted in well and I am enjoying playing on a regular basis.
Like Rovers, Huddersfield are having a good cup run at the moment, can you go all the way? (and play Rovers in the final of course!!)
I hope we can continue our good form and get in the latter stages.   It would be great to meet Rovers there.
How does playing in Super League compare to NL1?
I think the main difference is the speed of the game, it feels quite a bit faster.
We heard you were doing some training at prop, is this right?   Is it a development you would like to continue?
I have been playing there a bit.   I think it’s good to get experience in different positions, to make myself more useful in the squad.
Who has been the biggest influence on your playing career?
I’d probably say Mark Aston.   He was the first coach I had at pro level and was responsible for giving me my break in the pro game.
What do you like to do when you’re not playing rugby?
I’m a big fan of just chilling out to be honest.   I have a guitar and enjoy playing that. I also like a bit of reading, and I’ve just finished the Da Vinci Code.
Do you have an ultimate ambition in the game?
I’d love to represent my country and maybe even experience playing in Australia.
You were involved in the very successful school’s programme while you were at Rovers, do you do anything like that now?   Is it something you enjoyed?
I really enjoyed going to schools coaching in Hull.   As it was my job last year I did a few days each week.   Now we only go in once a week, but it is good to coach skills to the kids.
We know you and your parents are at Craven Park to see Rovers play as often as you can, is there still a bit of the red and white in your heart?
Yes, I’ll always have fond memories of playing with Rovers and I check the result every week.
Finally, having seen Rovers play, how do you rate our chances for making it to Super League at the end of the season?
I was really impressed with the team against Leigh and Whitehaven. I hope they do make it to Super League,   I’ll be watching their progress.
Once again, thanks very much for doing this interview Andy and all the best for the rest of the season
